Machine Setup

Setting up a CNC mill or lathe properly, on the controls a shop actually runs. This comes before programming deliberately — a student who understands the machine writes better code than one who learned the code first.

Both control generations, on purpose

Very few shops run one generation of control. A graduate who has only seen a current machine is lost in front of the older one still earning its keep in the corner — and that older machine is often what a new hire gets. Programs with a mixed fleet teach both; programs with one can skip the other.
